Is 'how many calories did I burn' an answerable question, particularly relating to a stair stepper? Not really. Well not until you first evaluate a few things about current lifestyle. You see, how many calories you burn for weight loss will depend on several variables.
These include your weight, age, fitness level and of course the intensity and length of time you spend exercising on a stair stepper. And one important thing you must remember about how the calories you burn, is that you must first set a weight loss plan, which will include a nutritional healthy diet.
When looking to burn calories to lose belly fat and tone up, and as part of your fat loss plan, you should also calculate your body fat percentage. By doing this before you start any weight control strategy, you will get a better idea of how much work you have to do to lose weight.
To get the most out of your workout on a stepper, and to burn even more calories you could try executing a range of different workouts. This not only reduces the boredom factors quite considerably and makes your workout that much more fun to do, but you will continue to burn those excess pounds and never reach a plateau in your training.
What I mean by that is that by varying your workouts, you keep your heart rate high and you never stop burning fat and calories! This is not only great news if you find stepping in one spot a chore, but it also has incredible health and fitness benefits.
A Stair Stepper Burns Stomach Fat: If you are overweight or even if you just want to generally tone up your 'mid-section', the stair stepper is a great way to burn stomach fat and get a flat tummy!
So how many calories are burned if you vary your stepper exercise routine and how do you vary the workout if you're only stepping up and down?
As we've discussed above, exactly how many calories you burn on a stair stepper will vary. But I have found a great resource for calculating factors relating to calorie burning and if you use these different tools, you will get a general idea of:
1. Calories you burn just by being alive
2. Calories you need to burn on a daily basis to lose weight
3. Amount of calories you should consume to lose weight
Firstly, lets cover how you vary your workout.
A typical workout would be 20 to 30 minutes long, at an intensity level not too high that it makes your legs hurt like they're being slapped by bamboos and not too low, that you can step all day. This is would be counter productive to you, one way would build your leg muscles too much and the latter, well it's just not worth doing!
Next you have interval training on a stepper. How many calories are burned during interval training is greatly increased, because your body continues to burn the flabby stuff up to twenty four hours after you have finished your cardio session! Absolute great news, yes?
But how do you do interval training on a stair stepper?
There are several ways you can use interval training, just by adjusting the time. This is how I use this type of training:
I do either of two methods. First one would be a low resistance level and the motion would be quite fast. Secondly, the resistance level is up quite high so it's virtually impossible to step quickly.
Then I do either a minute of high intensity and then a minute of low intensity, for about ten times. This is after a 5 minute warm-up, and to finish off I would complete a few minutes warm down.
